Awarded Human Rights Prize

We are delighted to announce that Instituto PAPAI, one of our Brazilian partners, has been awarded the International Service Human Rights Award for their work promoting sexual & reproductive healthcare rights. Now in their seventh year, the Human Rights Awards recognise the achievements of organisations and individuals around the world who work at a grassroots level to promote human rights and change the things that cause people to be excluded, impoverished or disempowered.

Instituto PAPAI are pioneers, seeking to challenge the machismo of Brazilian society by promoting public policy that aims to abolish gender inequality. They are the first NGO in Latin America to work with men and boys from the perspective of gender. ChildHope and PAPAI have recently worked together on a DFID-funded project to engage marginalised youth in collective action to prevent violence in 4 regions of Brazil, also implemented with local partners Promundo, MST and Grupo Attitude. Instituto PAPAI successfully engaged boys, men and young people from low income communities in Recife to challenge violence against women and children and promote gender equality. Instituto PAPAI have gained increasing international recognition recently for their outstanding work, recently hosting an event where UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon gave a speech. A representative from Instituto PAPAI will travel to London to receive their award at a ceremony on Monday 7th December at the House of Lords.
