Wednesday 10th February - The Impact of Trauma & Abuse on Children's Attachment and Development
ChildHope will be facilitating a series of free seminars on principles and practices in child protection. The seminars are open to anyone who would like to deepen their understanding of work with vulnerable children. We hope that this will be a starting point for sharing the wealth of knowledge and skills held within agencies around the world on the practical application of child protection.
Seminar 1: Wednesday 10th February
The first seminar will be delivered by Childhope Trustee, Laverne Antobus. Laverne is a Consultant Child and Educational Psychologist with 20 years experience of working with children and families in the most need of help. She is also an academic tutor at the prestigious Tavistock Clinic where she is helping to train the next generation of psychologists.
Laverne's lecture will explore the impact of trauma and abuse on children's attachment and development. The lecture will go beyond the simple categorization of abuse and its symptoms, to really explore how it affects children's physical, emotional and social development. She will illustrate the concepts through providing case examples from her work with Siya Phulaphula in Johannesburg, South Africa where she supports the work of mental health workers in rural communities.
