Every Year on 1-7 August, individuals and organisations across the globe celebrate World Breastfeeding Week. Events are organised to promote awareness of the importance of breastfeeding and educate mothers about how breastfeeding can help reduce child mortality and promote the general health and well-being of both mother and baby. For ChildHope partner, CINI (Child In Need Institution), it is a great opportunity to speak with local communities. Through engaging activities such as mothers' workshops, quiz contests, village and slum meetings, street stalls and video shows CINI is helping educate families on the benefits of breastfeeding for mothers and their babies.

Breastfeeding experiences for Mum's living in Kolkata, India
'I used to give cow milk to my elder daughter, now 2 years old, as I felt my breast milk was not sufficient for her. I was practicing the same for my younger 2 months old daughter but CINI's awareness program helped me understand the importance of breastfeeding. I have continued to breastfeed and I am happy that my young baby is healthy.'
Deepa, Kolkata India
'I always wanted to give breast milk to my children and was aware of its importance, but I had little support from my family. My youngest daughter is now six months of age and I have not given her a single drop of bottled milk. After attending CINI's awareness program, my mother in law and other family members have also started to support me.'
