We are delighted to announce that BAFTA-winning actor Bill Nighy will present the BBC Radio 4 Appeal, in 2010 Bill visited our project in Kenya with partner Pendekezo Letu.
On 21st January 2018 tune in to BBC Radio 4 to hear iconic actor Bill Nighy present the charity BBC appeal for ChildHope. You will have the chance to hear Bill passionately talk about his personal experience,
‘I had one of the most extraordinary experiences of my life which in the end, although harrowing, gave me great hope.’
Bill met ten-year-old Grace on a dumpsite in Kenya in 2010. Grace spent her days sifting through rotting rubbish and chemical waste on a vast, sprawling rubbish dump to find toxic bits of plastic and metal to sell.
“I had lost my hope. I thought I would die at the dumpsite. Now my mother can take care of us. We are comfortable both in school and at home” said Grace.
Grace is seventeen now with ChildHope’s support, she’s in secondary school and her mother is running a successful grocery shop, and her children are getting the education they need to pull themselves out of poverty.
ChildHope’s BBC Radio 4 Appeal will broadcast on Sunday 21stJanuary 07.54 and 21.25, and again at 15.26, 25th January 2018.
BBC Appeal donations for ChildHope will be accepted online via the Radio 4 website or by calling 0800 404 8144 or you can write a cheque to ChildHope and send it to Freepost BBC Radio 4 Appeal from 21st January until 27th January 2018.
