NGOs we have worked with

AbleChildAfrica

AbleChildAfrica is a UK charity working with partner organisations in Africa. They are the leading UK charity working exclusively with and for children with disabilities in Africa. They work with some of the world’s most vulnerable children. We supported AbleChildAfrica through a long term programme that provided ongoing support and advice in the areas of safeguarding and child protection as their work developed. We also advised and supported AbleChildAfrica to strengthen its case management process across the organisation.

Anti-Slavery

Anti-Slavery is the oldest human rights organisation in the world with over 175 years’ experience successfully combating slavery. We supported Anti-Slavery to train their staff in how to apply their child protection policy in practice. The programme team was supported to develop skills to assess and support child protection practice amongst partner organisations. We also provided materials that will be used for ongoing team development and training.

Chance for Childhood

Chance for Childhood is an international children’s charity working in seven African countries to strengthen and empower local communities to protect children facing injustice. We delivered training to help Chance for Childhood understand the global standards on safeguarding and the associated legal requirements and the difference between safeguarding and protection. With lots of technical innovation in their programme work, we helped them think about safeguarding on the internet as part of their responsibilities and we supported them to implement their child protection policy and establish their processes for reporting abuse.

Deaf Child Worldwide

Deaf Child Worldwide is the international development arm of the National Deaf Children’s Society. It is the UK's leading international charity for deaf children in developing countries. We supported Deaf Child Worldwide to revise its child protection policy to ensure that it meets international standards for protection and safeguarding. A key element of the design was to ensure that it meets the needs of deaf children. We also worked with their programmes teams in the UK and overseas to develop mechanisms for assessing and supporting child protection practice in their partner organisations, linking them to our partner in Kenya, Pendekezo Letu for additional safeguarding training.

DeafKidz International

Deafkidz International is the UK’s leading organisation working to improve the safety of deaf children in low resource and complex humanitarian settings around the world. We worked with DeafKidz to review their developing safeguarding framework to ensure that it would survive scrutiny by other practitioners and the global health, development and humanitarian community. We developed specific, dedicated core content which will be cascaded through Deafkidz partners Islamic Relief, the Global Partnership to End Violence against Children, and the World Federation of the Deaf – the UN agency for deaf people, which represents the interests of 70 million deaf people worldwide. Over 10 thousand Child Helpline International counsellors will have access to this content, helping them to respond to the safeguarding and protection needs of deaf children.

RNLI

RNLI International was formed in 2011 to help reduce the global problem of drowning. In low-income countries in Africa and Asia, where people rely on open water for day-to-day activities like fishing, drinking and transportation, it’s a huge problem. Since 2012, RNLI have been working with The Panje Project, helping them to run a survival swimming and community education programme on Unguja and Pemba, the two largest islands in Zanzibar. We supported RNLI to review their safeguarding policy and adapt their safeguarding procedures to ensure they were appropriate at a local context in Zanzibar. We sent our partner in Tanzania, Elimu Mwangaza, to liaise with the Panje Project and run workshops on safeguarding for all staff.

Elbi

Elbi is social media network that connects people to causes. Elbi is a platform for short videos that enables users to hear directly from people who work in the charity or those affected by the issue. Just like a dating app, the user swipes left and right and if the cause inspires the viewer they tap a heart to donate. We helped raise awareness of the importance of safeguarding across the business and supported Elbi to strengthen its safeguarding process in its operations.

Womankind Worldwide

Womankind Worldwide is a global women’s rights organisation working with women’s rights organisations in 13 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. We supported them to strengthen their safeguarding process across the entire organisation. This was achieved by working to update its policy to ensure that it conforms to national legislation and global standards for safeguarding. We also worked with the team to ensure safeguarding is central to programmes and operations.

Government of Kenya

The Locational Area Advisory Councils (LAACs) are part of the Government structure of children's departments that deliver child protection strategies on the ground. They hold community awareness events and talk to parents, teachers and children about child rights and make sure they know where to report abuse. Our partner, Pendekezo Letu, has been working with the Government representatives in Kenya to deliver training to staff in over 30 LAACs from diverse locations alongside two police officers from every police station from all four sub-counties in which the LAACs operate, to develop the skills and the systems and processes they need to be able to deliver the Government’s national child protection strategy.
